Diese wird jedoch durch einen neuen Fall seines Freundes Sherlock Holmes gestört: Eine Klientin bittet ihn, ihren Bruder aufzuspüren, der unter seltsamen Umständen in das kleine Dorf Wiping abgereist und dort verschwunden ist. Vor Ort stellt sich jedoch heraus, dass in Wiping eine tödliche Gefahr lauert, die jeden Februar Menschenleben fordert und ihre Finger auch nach Dr. Watson ausstreckt.
