In einem verwunschen wirkenden Garten erblickt der junge Edelmann Florio die Marmorstatue einer schönen Frau und kann ihr Gesicht nicht mehr vergessen. Als er dann plötzlich eine Dame kennen lernt, die der Statue wie aus dem Gesicht geschnitten ist, verliebt er sich in sie und lebt dafür, sie wiederzusehen. Doch als er ihr in ihren Garten folgt, scheint hinter dem, was er sieht, noch eine zweite Wirklichkeit zu liegen, die seine Liebe bedroht.
