Ein markerschütternder Schrei hallt durch die Kirche, ein Todesschrei. Lionel, Polizist im Ruhestand und zufällig vor Ort, will zu Hilfe eilen und kommt Sekunden zu spät. Der Mann auf der Empore ist bereits tot, seinen Kopf umgibt eine dunkle Blutlache wie ein Heiligenschein. Etwas an dem Toten und seinem Sterben fasziniert Kasdan. Er muss den Mord einfach untersuchen und entdeckt ein grauenvolles Geheimnis: Unschuldig wirkende Kinder sind der Schlüssel, und sie sind keinesfalls Engel, sondern die Ausgeburt des Bösen.
