Liedjesschrijver Oscar heeft Nederland achter zich gelaten en woont al een tijd in New York. Sinds kort volgt hij een cursus scenarioschrijven bij de vermaarde docent Seth Michael Donsky. Wanneer hij daar de flamboyante acteur Sam ontmoet, besluiten ze een appartement te delen. Per toeval ontdekken ze dat hun buurman 'Disco' afgeperst wordt, wat in eerste instantie een geweldig verhaal voor hun script lijkt op te leveren, maar hoe meer ze de afpersing naar hun hand proberen te zetten, hoe sneller de problemen zich opstapelen. Tot er geen weg meer terug is.
