Holmes und Watson genießen eines der ersten Freilichtkonzerte im Londoner Green-wich Park. Aufgrund der vielen Besucher müssen sie den Rückweg zu Fuß antreten, da weder Kutsche noch Droschke frei sind. Dabei fällt Holmes auf, dass sie verfolgt wer-den. Jedoch nicht von einem Menschen, sondern von einem Hund - einem Border Col-lie. Was zunächst nur wie die Marotte eines Tiers anmutet, entwickelt sich schon bald zu einem delikaten Kriminalfall, in den auch ein einflussreicher Lord des Oberhauses verwickelt ist.
