Judith Kellermann, die neue Mandantin von Rachel Eisenberg, wird zum zweiten Mal wegen Mordes angeklagt - an ein und demselben Mann: Vor 11 Jahren sprengte sie angeblich ihren Lebensgefährten in die Luft, als er mit einem Segelboot in der Ägäis unterwegs war. Die Strafkammer verurteilte sie zu lebenslanger Haft, aber eine Leiche wurde nie gefunden. Als Judith in einer Illustrierten ein Foto entdeckt, das ihren damaligen Freund als Betreiber einer Segelschule in Neuseeland zeigt, schöpft sie Hoffnung auf eine Wiederaufnahme des Verfahrens. Doch bevor ihre Anwältin Rachel Kontakt zu dem Mann aufnehmen kann, wird er tatsächlich ermordet - in einem Hotel in Deutschland, an einem Tag, an dem Judith Hafturlaub hatte.
