Auf dem Marktplatz von Turku steigt ein junger Mann in einen Brunnen, nackt und offenbar verwirrt. Er hat ein Messer bei sich. Im Nachhinein kann sich niemand mehr erklären, warum es dazu kam, dass einer der herbeigeeilten Polizisten ihn erschoss - am wenigsten der Schütze selbst. Er möchte mehr über das Opfer erfahren und wendet sich an seinen Kollegen Kimmo Joentaa. Kimmo überbringt den Eltern die Nachricht vom Tod ihres Sohnes und stößt dabei auf die Spuren einer Katastrophe, die mehrere Leben tiefgreifend verändert hat.
