Onkel Wanja sieht sein letztes Stündlein herannahen und wünscht sich von seinem Neffen Wladimir: "Bevor ich sterbe, möchte ich noch einmal die Welt bereisen. Vielleicht nicht die ganze Welt, vielleicht nur Europa, oder gar nur Deutschland. Und auch dort nur Berlin. Kurzum, schicke mir bitte eine Einladung." Gesagt, getan. Als er in Berlin eintrifft, machen sich die beiden vom Bahnhof zu Fuß auf den Weg zu Wladimir.
