Magda, de hoofdpersoon in het korte verhaal Stilte van Lieneke Dijkzeul, is al 38 jaar getrouwd met Victor. Hun zorgeloze leventje is met de verkoop van zijn bedrijf alleen nog maar beter geworden. Toch steekt er iets; terwijl de alles om haar heen doorgaat, staat voor Magda's gevoel de tijd stil, en dat neemt ze Victor kwalijk. Maar dan overlijdt Victor plotseling en krijgt Magda de kans om de regie over haar leven weer in eigen hand te nemen.
